Students attain and retain information best when they are able to actively participate in their learning. Hands on activities promote higher order questioning through examination and trial and error. This equipment is essential to fairly compete in the current and future scientifically based world and promote higher order thinking skills in and beyond the subject of science.

ORFF INSTRUMENTS IN THE ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM

These musical instruments will be included in the musical lesson plan based on Carl Orff’s work. This is a hands-on approach that incorporates singing, dancing, speech, and instrument playing. Due to the recent increase in student enrollment, there are times when two music classes need to use these instruments at the same time.

This grant provides leveled nonfiction texts that will allow students to read and research topics with text that is developmentally appropriate. These book sets cover one topic at three grade level appropriate reading levels with varied sentence lengths and vocabulary but identical content. Students will gain confidence and develop skills rather than be overwhelmed and frustrated by text that is above their level.

This project will increase student engagement and learning by providing graphic novels to expand reading choice in the library. This will increase independent reading by offering an expanded number of books in one of our most highly circulated formats.

Providing the databases from PebbleGO.com enhances student achievement by giving students grade level appropriate access to a wide variety of topics, allowing them to build prior knowledge, add to their schema and make learning connections. Students will benefit from using the databases by building on prior knowledge and having a website to explore that supports and feeds their intellectual curiosity.
