​Orvis Risner Elementary School's overall grant requests have been reviewed and scored by EPS Foundation board members as well as a panel of EPS educators. There are 3 grants  totaling $14,793.45.  Grants are listed in order of score ranking and an * in front of the grant name indicates funding priority based on a threshold score of 67 points and above. *3RD GRADE TECHNOLOGY GRANT

In 3rd grade especially, the more resources for Reading and Math, the more prepared students will be for the end of year state test. This grant will allow for more intervention and tracked progress of all students, but especially those who need a little extra help. By implementing the use of iPads into the classroom, the teachers will be able to improve student engagement, peer interaction, and collaboration and extend the place and time of learning.

SING, DANCE AND PLAY: BUILDING BLOCKS FOR FUTURE MUSICIANS

This grant proposal extends and enhances the collection of instruments to allow students more time on the instruments and increase exposure to different types of music. With these instruments, the students can develop a broader world-view in young students by introducing them to chants, dances and rhythms of varying cultures such as West African, East Indian, and Native American. These instruments will allow unity with music, movement, dance and speech.

School safety remains a concern across our state and country particularly following the violent acts of 911 and the tragedy that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary. Creating and maintaining safe schools is a continuing process that focuses on the development and implementation of strategies to support the safety and security of child and staff members at school.
